DIBELS - Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy (University of Oregon)

Students in grades K - 5 will be assessed for age appropriate reading readiness, decoding, fluency, and comprehenison utilizing the DIBELS assessment at least twice a year. Students will be considered "at risk" and receive additional support in reading based on this assessment as well as the student's performance on other assessments including (Orton Gillingham, IRI and STAR Reading/AR). Teacher recommendations will also be considered but those students may be served through our ASIP program.
    Push-In Reading Support
This is for students in grades K - 2. Mrs. Guido and Mrs. Hanisak will be spending time in the K - 2 classrooms during language arts and center times to help students in the classroom setting. We will focus on phonemic awareness and phonics instruction, the keystones to reading acquistion. For students who still require additional support Mrs. Guido will pull out small groups during reading time to work more intensely with these students.
    Earobics (Houghton Mifflin)
Earobics is a computer based program that builds phonemic awareness, auditory processing and phonics skills. Developed by language-learning and literacy specialists, Earobics teaches the skills necessary to learn how to speak, read and spell. Automated data collection tools help monitor students’ progress, print reports and guide remediation. For each activity, Earobics automatically generates IEP-formatted goals.
    Reading Assistant (Scientific Learning)
Reading Assistant is the only tool that uses speech recognition technology to support and correct learners as they read aloud, helping them build reading fluency and comprehension with the help of a supportive listener. Reading Assistant is the only reading program that “listens” to students as they read out loud, intervenes when students falter, and automatically scores students’ oral reading. No other program or e-book provides comparable real-time guidance and feedback. Scilearn
Reading Assistant is designed to be used by beginning readers, English language learners, and struggling readers who have attained basic word recognition and decoding skills and are now building their vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. This includes students as young as first grade, all the way up to adults.
    Read Naturally Encore
Read Naturally Encore accelerates reading achievement by combining three research-based reading strategies for struggling readers—teacher modeling, repeated reading, and progress monitoring. A student works at his or her own pace in an appropriate level of material. The student works through the steps and masters a story by reading along with audio and then practicing the story until he or she can read it fluently and with comprehension. The student tracks his or her progress on a graph. Students become confident readers by developing fluency, phonics skills, comprehension, and vocabulary while reading nonfiction reading passages with questions. This time-tested intervention program engages students with interesting nonfiction stories and yields powerful results.
    Skill Level: Grades 1‒8
Intervention Range: Beginning Reader to Adult
